Kidnapped Ekiti PDP chieftain regains freedom

The kidnapped financial secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Mr Kayode Oni has regained his freedom.

Oni was said to have been kidnapped between  Efon- Erio Ekiti  Highway while returning to Aramoko Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area at about 4.30pm last Saturday.

He was said to be returning from Efon Local Government where he went to conduct the PDP Local
government congress before he was abducted.

The spokesman for the PDP in the state, Jackson Adebayo revealed that the kidnappers had established contact with the abductee’s wife and younger brother and demanded a sum of N30 million as ransom.

His abductors immediately demanded for a ransom of N30 million which was later reduced to N10  million.

But Adebayo confirmed to newsmen on Wednesday morning in Ado-Ekiti that the victim has now been set free.

He said: ” Our Financial Secretary, Mr Kayode Oni has been set free by his abductors last night.”

He was however silent on whether any ransom was paid by the PDP or family of the victim to secure his release.

The PDP however expressed gratitude to people of Ekiti State for their prayers and assistance in ensuring that the victim was released.

The party also thanked the police for their efforts and  prompt action in making sure that he was released alive.
